Dieter E. Kilian

Dieter E. Kilian (* 1941 ) is a former German colonel i. G. the Bundeswehr and author.

Life

Kilian was born in the Sudetenland in 1941 . After graduating from high school in Fritzlar , Hesse , in 1961 , he joined the armed forces . He served with Panzerbataillon 64 in Stadtallendorf and was then trained as an officer at the Army Officer School I (HOS I) in Hanover and in Münster. From 1963 to 1969 he was used as platoon leader and telecommunications officer in Panzerbataillon 64 in the city of Allendorf and as S4 and company commander in Panzerbataillon 214 in Augustdorf . From 1972 to 1974 he completed the 15th General Staff Course (H) at the Command Academy of the Federal Armed Forces (FüAkBw) in Hamburg .

In 1975/76 he took part in the Pakistani general staff training at Staff College in Quetta . From 1976 to 1978 he was G4 of Panzerbrigade 18 in Neumünster . From 1978 to 1980 he was employed as a planning officer for the Director of Training, Teaching & Research (ALF) at the FüAkBw in Hamburg. From 1980 to 1984 he was a defense attaché at the German Embassy in Islamabad (Pakistan). From 1984 to 1988 he was a consultant in the headquarters of the armed forces (Fü S) in Bonn. Afterwards he was used as deputy commander or commander of Heimatschutzbrigade 55 in Böblingen . Subsequently he was in command of the training centers in Defense Area V in Großengstingen . In 1990 he completed the Higher Command & Staff Course at Staff College Camberley, UK . In 1990/1991 he completed the Arabic language training at the Federal Language Office (BSprA) in Hürth. From 1991 to 1994 he was a defense attaché at the German Embassy in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) with secondary accreditation in Bahrain , Yemen , Oman , Qatar and the United Arab Emirates . From 1994 to 2000 he was G2 in the Defense Division I in Kiel .

He was also on missions abroad for IFOR in Zagreb (1996) and SFOR in Sarajevo (1997/98).

Since his retirement in 2000, he has been working as a freelance journalist (including publications on behalf of ) and book author.
