Dieter Mitrenga (born July 6, 1940 in Ratibor , Upper Silesia ; † July 25, 2017 ) was a German internist , rheumatologist , nephrologist and AIDS specialist.

Live and act

Mitrenga was born on July 6, 1940 as the first child of the dentist Bernhard Mitrenga (1908–1969) and his wife Elisabeth. Daumann (1909–1994) born. His mother fled with him and their three years younger sister in 1945 from what is now Poland. They came to Bavaria via the Czech Republic, where Mitrenga started school in 1946. After the father returned from the war , the family moved to Schleswig-Holstein . Until 1955 they lived on a farm near Kiel . There he attended high school and then the Alexander-Hegius-Gymnasium in Ahaus . After graduating from high school in 1961, he attended the University of Cologne in the same year to study medicine. At the university he held the office of spokesman for the faculty for medical students. He passed the medical state examination in 1967.

After working as a medical assistant for two years , he obtained his license to practice medicine in 1970 . In the same year he received a scholarship from the German Research Foundation at the University of Hanover . There he dealt with immunohistology and fluorescent antibody technology and gained insights into immunology and rheumatology.

In 1972 he received his doctorate on the subject of in-vitro examinations of parenterally applicable hemostyptics. In the same year he moved to the medical clinic of the University of Cologne and worked there under Rudolf Gross until 1982. During this time he was recognized as a specialist in internal medicine , nephrology and rheumatology.

In 1983 he became chief physician in the area of ​​the collegial system at the Augustinian Hospital in Cologne. Between 1988 and 1991 he and Rudolf Thoma headed the Clinic for Internal Medicine , which focuses on HIV and AIDS. Since 2000 he has been the hospital's medical director and chief physician for the internal medicine clinic.

For the district office of Cologne of the North Rhine Medical Association , he was the chairman and training officer. By March 2015, he had organized and directed 175 advanced training events. For many years he was a member of the board of directors of the North Rhine Medical Association and the German Medical Association, and between 1977 and 2014 he was a member of the chamber assembly of the North Rhine Medical Association. In addition, from 1978 to 2014 he was a member of the Standing Conference on Further Education of the German Medical Association and chaired the further education commission and the committees for further education, prevention and treatment of AIDS diseases. As a delegate, he took part in a total of 34 doctors' days.

Until his death, Mitrenga was chairman of the State Commission AIDS, a commission that advises state governments on AIDS issues and the containment of AIDS.

Mitrenga and the Marburger Bund

In June 1968 Mitrenga joined the Marburger Bund , a specialist union for doctors . Between 1975 and 2009 he was a member of the MB regional association North Rhine-Westphalia / Rhineland-Palatinate. From 1981 he was also a member of the federal executive committee. After he was a member of the board of the Marburger Bund for eleven electoral terms, he announced his departure in 2007 and became an honorary member. Before that he was also the chairman of the working groups for further training and medical care and was co-editor of the Marburger-Bund-Zeitung , the association journal of the Marburger Bund. He was also the managing director of the Marburger Bund Treuhandgesellschaft.

Private

Dieter Mitrenga married the medical student Ingrid Schulte in 1965, with whom he had two children. His daughter was born in 1973 and his son two years later. The daughter is also a doctor.

Mitrenga died at the age of 77 and was buried on August 5, 2017 in the family grave in Cologne's Melaten Central Cemetery (Corridor 2 (M)).

Awards

In addition to his honorary membership in the Marburger Bund, he was honored by the board of the German Medical Association in 1990 with the Ernst von Bergmann plaque , which is awarded to people who have made outstanding contributions to the field of medical training. In 2006 he received the Adolf Kussmaul Medal from the German Society for Rheumatology , which is awarded to people who

"Have decisively shaped rheumatology in Germany with their life's work or with a significant individual achievement."

The ABV bowl of honor was awarded to him in 2008 by the Association of Professional Pension Institutions. In 2013, Mitrenga was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class, by Cologne's Lord Mayor Jürgen Roters . The award was justified with his decades of commitment to HIV and AIDS patients.
