Dieter Josef Przewdzing (born February 24, 1944 in Odertal II , district of Odertal , Groß Strehlitz district ; † February 18, 2014 in Krępna , Powiat Krapkowicki ) was an Upper Silesian local politician and mayor in Zdzieszowice (Deschowitz). Przewdzing was a politician and a member of the German minority .

Life

The parents lived in the Upper Silesian village of Roswadze , which was renamed Annengrund by the Nazi rulers in 1936 . A few years after the end of the war , Dieter graduated from the Polish elementary school in Rozwadza . After training as a technician, he worked in Kędzierzyn-Koźle . He later joined the Polish United Workers 'Party (PZPR) and became a member of the Voluntary Reserve of the Citizens' Militia ( Ochotnicza Rezerwa Milicji Obywatelskiej ORMO). From 1976 he became a community leader and since 1990 as mayor of the city Zdzieszowice elected and remained in that position until the end of life. As a result, he was the oldest mayor in Poland with a term of 38 years.

From 1989 he became involved in the Social and Cultural Society of Germans in Opole Silesia (SKGD) and became its candidate for the Senate of the Republic of Poland in 2001 and a candidate for the Sejm of the Republic of Poland in 2007 . In 1997 Dieter Przewdzing received the Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland in gold and in 2005 he was made a Knight of the Order of Polonia Restituta . On October 11, 2013 he received in Opole from the Vice Dean of the State Agricultural Academy in Poltava the (Poltava State Agrarian Academy) Oleg Gorb honorary doctorate ( Dr. honoris causa ).

In the last years of his activity he campaigned for an autonomous Upper Silesia, which showed similarities with the views of the movement for the autonomy of Silesia , and particularly called for financial and economic self-government in the region.

A few days before his 70th birthday, Dieter Przewdzing was murdered on February 18, 2014 at around 7 p.m. in Krępna. More than 3,000 people attended the funeral that took place in Żyrowa (Zyrowa) on February 22nd . Despite the efforts of the local public prosecutor in Opole, this murder case remains unsolved.
