Dillon Anderson

Dillon Anderson (born July 14, 1906 in McKinney , Texas , † January 29, 1974 in Houston , Texas) was an American lawyer and between 1955 and 1956 National Security Advisor of the USA .

Life

After attending school, Anderson first studied at Texas Christian University and then at the University of Oklahoma , where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1927 . A subsequent postgraduate study of law at the Law School of Yale University he finished in 1929 with a Juris Doctor (JD).

He then practiced as a lawyer after being admitted to the bar and since 1940 partner of Baker Botts , a law firm with 700 lawyers today and headquartered in Houston. During the Second World War he did his military service in the US Army between 1942 and 1945 and was awarded the Legion of Merit for his services .

After serving on the National Security Council between 1953 and 1955 , he was US National Security Advisor between April 1955 and September 1956.

He then worked again as a partner at Baker Botts and in the private sector as a member of the board of directors of Federated Department Stores . He was also a temporary member of the editorial board of The Atlantic Monthly magazine , trustee of the Andrew Carnegie Foundation for International Peace, and was also involved in the Brookings Institution . In 1959, Anderson was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
