Dimethyl tetrachloroterephthalate (chlorothal-dimethyl) is a chemical compound from the group of esters of dicarboxylic acids . Chlorthal-dimethyl is a pre-emergence herbicide that works by inhibiting microtubules.

Extraction and presentation

Chlorthal-dimethyl can be obtained by reacting terephthalic acid with thionyl chloride , chlorine and methanol . Synthesis of Chlorthal

Admission

In 2009, the EU Commission decided not to include it in the list of approved active ingredients in pesticides. The sale period ended on September 30, 2010. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland no pesticides containing dimethyl tetrachloride terephthalate are permitted.
