The St. Galler Kantonalbank Arena is an ice rink in Rapperswil , a district of the Swiss municipality of Rapperswil-Jona in the canton of St. Gallen . The Hockey Club of SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers plays its games here.

history

The former "Ice Rink Lido" was opened in 1987 and completely rebuilt from 2005 to 2006. With the renovation, the name was also changed to "Diners Club Arena". The name change was made because Diners Club was the main sponsor and the construction of the new ice hockey arena with around 1.5 million SFr. had co-financed. The loans of over five million francs were clearly accepted in both communities in the vote on September 25, 2005, so the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers have been able to play in the new, renovated stadium since the 2006/07 season. The renovation work began while the match was in operation in 2005. The arena now holds 6,100 spectators. There was a reallocation of standing room to more seats. The catering and the sanitary facilities were also renovated.

On June 28, 2016, the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers announced the name change for the hall for the 2016/17 season . The St.Galler Kantonalbank secured the naming rights to the SCRJ Lakers' venue through a new sponsorship contract until 2021. The contract includes an option for eight more years until 2029. This, however, is linked to the redesign of the Lido area where the ice rink stands. The citizens of Rapperswil will vote on this in 2017. The contract also includes the neighboring pavilion. According to the agreement, the proceeds of this are earmarked for the infrastructure.
