Disney Parks, Experiences and Products (until 2018: Walt Disney Parks and Resorts ) is the part of the Walt Disney Company that is responsible for the planning, construction and organization of all Disney theme parks and holiday resorts. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is thus one of the four main units of the company.

The Walt Disney Parks and Resorts division was founded in 1971 when the second Disney theme park, the Magic Kingdom, opened at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disney formed a team that specialized in the maintenance of this park. The team was also supposed to maintain the then 16-year-old Disneyland in California .

The director of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products is Josh D'Amaro , the former president of Walt Disney World Resort .

There are currently 14 Disney parks worldwide in four different countries on three different continents ( North America , Asia and Europe ). They are divided into five resorts.

Walt Disney Imagineering

Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) was founded as WED Enterprises (WED = Walter Elias Disney) on December 16, 1952 by Walt Disney . He commissioned a group of animators from Walt Disney Studios to design and realize the Disneyland Park.

Disney operates four resorts worldwide, each with two or more theme parks in North America, Europe and Asia, as well as two additional, individual parks, also in Asia. Disney's theme parks are among the most visited in the world:

Disneyland Resort in California (1955)

The Disneyland in Anaheim was founded as the first Walt Disney park in the 1955th The park was built as a nostalgic reproduction of an American city in the early 20th century. This idea was ultimately implemented in all Disneyland theme parks and can now be found under the name Main Street, USA .

In 1989 the 300 millionth visitor was counted. For a long time Disneyland was the most visited amusement park in the world. In 2019, it was in second place with 18.67 million visitors, behind the Magic Kingdom (20.96 million visitors) and ahead of Tokyo Disneyland (17.91 million visitors).

Walt Disney World Resort in Florida (1971)

The largest Disney resort is the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando (Florida) , which covers an area of over 15,000 hectares . The first park at Walt Disney World Resort, Magic Kingdom, opened in October 1971, costing up to its completion this year about 400 million US dollars .

Tokyo Disney Resort (1983)

The Tokyo Disney Resort was opened in 1983 and was the first Disney theme park outside the United States . The park is located in Urayasu in Chiba Prefecture , and is about 15 kilometers from downtown Tokyo Station.

In 2001 the park was expanded to include another theme park, Tokyo DisneySea . The complex now called Tokyo Disney Resort also includes several hotels and a Disney shopping complex, the Ikspiari (read X-piari, as a play on the English word experience , which means experience in this context).

Disneyland Paris (1992)

The Disney Park opened in 1992 in Marne-la-Vallée , 32 kilometers east of Paris under the name Euro Disney , was renamed Disneyland Park in 1994 . The resort now has two theme parks, Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park (since the opening of the second park in 2002 Disneyland Resort Paris ), a shopping area, ten hotels and a campsite. Shanghai Disney Resort (2016)

The first Disney park in mainland China opened its doors on June 16, 2016. It is 43% owned by the Walt Disney Company and 57% owned by the Shanghai Shendi Group.

Disney Cruise Line (1995)

It has four cruise lines , the Disney Magic , Disney Wonder , Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream, as well as a private island in the Bahamas called Castaway Cay .

The Walt Disney World as well as the Disneyland had its own currency: the Disney dollars . This currency can be converted one to one with the US dollar. The currency therefore has more voucher status. In 2016 it was announced that production had ceased. Existing Disney Dollars can still be used for payment.
