The Bernal District is located in the Province of Sechura in the Piura region in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on June 15, 1920. It has an area of 67.64 km². At the 2017 census, there were 6,855 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 5006, in 2007 it was 6449. The administrative seat is the 16 m high town of Bernal with 4007 inhabitants (as of 2017). Bernal is east of the south running Río Sechura , 15 km northeast of the provincial capital Sechura .
Geographical location
The Bernal District is located in the northwest of the Province of Sechura, east of the Río Sechura. Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the district.
The Bernal district is bordered to the west by the district Rinconada Llícuar , in the northwest on the district Bellavista de la Unión , on the north by the district La Unión ( province of Piura ), in the northeast and east by the district El Tallán (also in the province of Piura) and in the south to the Cristo Nos Valga district .
