The Ciudad Nueva district is located in the Tacna Province in the Tacna region in the extreme southwest of Peru . The district has an area of ​​173.42 km². The 2017 census counted 31,866 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 26,178, in 2007 34,231. The district has a longitudinal extension in NNE-direction of 35 km. Most of it consists of desert. In the extreme south of the district is the city of the same name Ciudad Nueva (Spanish for "new city").

The district includes the northern suburb of the same name of the city of Tacna . It was founded on November 20, 1992 and separated from the existing Alto de la Alianza district . In the 1970s, due to the pressure of migration on the core city of Tacna, an area of ​​62 hectares was developed as the Asentamiento A settlement area . In 1981 the settlement was named Asentamiento Ciudad Nueva .
