The Coronel Gregorio Albarracín Lanchipa district is located in the Tacna Province in the Tacna region in the extreme southwest of Peru . The district has an area of 175.6 km². The 2017 census counted 110,417 inhabitants. In 2007 the population was 68,989. The administrative seat of the district is the suburb Alfonso Ugarte on the southeastern outskirts of Tacna .
geography
The district area extends over the coastal desert south of Tacna. The course of the Quebrada de la Garita forms the southern boundary of the district. The national road 1S ( Panamericana ) runs along the southwestern district border. The Coronel Gregorio Albarracín Lanchipa district borders the Pocollay district in the northeast , otherwise it is enclosed by the Tacna district.
history
Coronel Gregorio Albarracín Lanchipa District was established on February 2, 2001. The area was detached from the existing Tacna district . The district is named after Gregorio Albarracín Lanchipa (1817-1882), a Peruvian colonel who died in the Peruvian-Bolivian War .
