The province of Tacna is one of four provinces in the Tacna region in the extreme south of Peru . The province has an area of 8066 km². The population in the 2017 census was 306,363. Ten years earlier the population was 262,731. The administrative seat is the city of Tacna .
Geographical location
The province of Tacna is on the Pacific coast. It extends over the desert-like arid coastal region. The rivers Río Caplina and Río Sama flow through the province. It borders in the northwest on the province of Jorge Basadre , in the northeast on the province of Tarata , in the east on Bolivia and in the south on the Región de Arica y Parinacota in Chile .
Administrative division
The province of Tacna is divided into eleven districts. The Tacna district is the seat of the provincial administration.
