The district of Jangas is located in the province of Huaraz in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 62.3 km². The 2017 census counted 4,971 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3569, in 2007 it was 4403. The district administration is located in the 2825 m high town of Jangas with 1779 inhabitants (as of 2017). Jangas is located 15 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Huaraz .
Geographical location
The district of Jangas is located on the eastern flank of the Cordillera Negra in the north of the province of Huaraz. The Río Santa flows north along the eastern district boundary.
The Jangas district is bordered by the Pira district in the southwest, the Yungar district ( Carhuaz province ) in the northwest, the Tarica district in the northeast, and the Independencia district in the southeast and south .
