The Pariacoto district is located in the Huaraz Province in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​168 km². The 2017 census counted 4,990 residents. In 1993 the population was 3907, in 2007 4386. The district administration is located in the 1239  m high village of Pariacoto with 1354 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pariacoto is about 40 km west of the provincial capital Huaraz .

Geographical location

The Pariacoto district is located on the western flank of the Cordillera Negra in the north-west of the Huaraz province. The Río Chacchan, the upper reaches of the Río Casma , flows west along the southern district boundary .

The district of Pariacoto borders in the southwest with the district Pampas Grande , in the extreme west with the district Yaután ( province Casma ), in the northwest with the district Cochabamba , in the north with the district Shupluy ( province Yungay ), in the northeast with the districts Carhuaz and Anta (both in the province of Carhuaz ), in the southeast to the district of Pira and in the south to the district of Colcabamba .
