The district of Cochabamba is located in the province of Huaraz in the Ancash region in western Peru . The district was established on September 30, 1943. It has an area of ​​138 km². The 2017 census counted 1745 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2204, in 2007 it was 2047. The district administration is located in the 2105  m high town of Cochabamba with 475 inhabitants (as of 2017). Cochabamba is 36 km west of the provincial capital Huaraz .

Geographical location

The district of Cochabamba is located on the western flank of the Cordillera Negra in the extreme northwest of the Huaraz province. The rivers Río Yaután and Río Akrun drain the area to the west and southwest respectively.

The district of Cochabamba is bordered to the west by the district of Yaután ( province of Casma ), to the northwest by the district of Cascapara , to the north by the district of Shupluy (the two aforementioned districts belong to the province of Yungay ) and to the east and south by the district of Pariacoto .
