Dicephaly (also dicephaly ; two-headed , from ancient Greek. Δύο dyo 'two' and κεφαλή kephali 'head') generally denotes the appearance of two heads in living beings. In the same way, polycephaly generally means having multiple heads.

In biology, dicephaly occurs as a special form of the Siamese twins . The division of the two fetuses is so incomplete that only the head, neck and possibly individual organs of the upper body appear twice.

Two cases were reported in the 19th century in which Siamese pairs of twins had two heads and four arms and shared the rest of the body. On December 22nd of the same year the birth of the brothers Emanoel and Jesus was reported in Anajás , Brazil .

Several cases are known in cattle. In 2006, dicephalic twin calves were born near the Egyptian city of Luxor . In 2009 a two-headed calf was born in the Peruvian village of Bambamarca and named "Milagritos". In January 2011, a pair of dicephalic calves was born in the Georgian village of Abedati. The calf named "Babsi", born on January 13, 2012 in Stroheim, Austria, died after two weeks.

In heraldry, the double - headed eagle is mainly used as a two-headed heraldic animal, three-headed eagles also appear. Individual cases are a vulture, a rooster (coat of arms of Versailles), a heron or a stork with two heads.
