The ferries of the Dmitriy Shostakovich class ( Russian Дмитрий Шостакович , German transcription: Dmitri Shostakovich), which was also known as Project B-492 , were small sea passenger motor ships. The class was named after the first ship in the class, which bore the name of the Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich .

history

The B-492 series of marine ships and its modification B-493 were manufactured from 1980 to 1986. The Szczecin Shipyard ( Stocznia Szczecińska im. Adolfa Warskiego ) in the People's Republic of Poland built ships of its own design to the order of the USSR . The ships went to the Soviet shipping companies Black Sea shipping company-ЧМП (three ships), Estonian shipping company-ЭМП - (one ship for the Tallinn-Helsinki route), Baltic Sea shipping company-БМП (one ship from the Black Sea shipping company for the Leningrad-Riga route), Far East shipping company- ДВМП (three ships). Since the ships on the Baltic and Black Seas were mainly used for cruises , they were all modernized over the course of the first five years for use as cruise ships , with more space for passengers by reducing the decks for cars.

technology

The ships had a diesel drive with 4 Sulzer-Skoda main engines that worked on 2 controllable pitch propellers.

On board

From the beginning, the watercraft were intended for 496 passengers in cabins of 2 and 4 people each, and the car deck could accommodate up to 118 cars. In the first five years, all ships were rebuilt according to requirements that applied to cruise ships in the 1980s. The Mikhail Suslov's car deck was converted into the most modern eye clinic at Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven GmbH in Bremerhaven from March 19 to June 2, 1989 , for which the Black Sea shipping company had received an invoice of DM 27 million, which was the financial situation the soon "independent Ukrainian" shipping company deteriorated significantly and led to the sale of the ships.
