Dmitri Igorewitsch Balandin ( Kazakh Дмитрий Игоревич Баландин ; born April 4, 1995 in Almaty ) is a Kazakh swimmer who competes in breaststroke swimming.

Sporting development

Dmitri Balandin currently holds the Kazakh records in breaststroke 100 and 200 m.

At the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea , Balandin won three gold medals in the 50, 100 and 200 m breaststroke, making him a historic success for Kazakhstan. In the 50 m competition, he also set a new record at the Asian Games with 27.87 seconds. He also succeeded in doing this over the 200 m with a new Asian record of 2.07.67 minutes.

At the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju , South Korea , Balandin won gold over the 100 m breaststroke and bronze over the 50 m in the same discipline.

At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro , Balandin won the gold medal in the 200m breaststroke , making it the first Kazakh swimming medal ever.
