Dominik Steiger (legal scholar)

Dominik Steiger (born February 13, 1978 in Münster ) is a German legal scholar . He is a professor at the Technical University of Dresden .

Life

After graduating from high school, which Steiger passed in 1997 at the Liebig School in Giessen , he began studying law. He completed this until 2004 at the Universities of Regensburg , Marseille / Aix-en-Provence and the University of Potsdam , he finished his studies with the successful completion of the first state examination in law . From 2001 to 2004, Steiger student assistant at the Chair of Constitutional Law, European Law and International Law of Eckart Klein and at the Human Rights Center of the University of Potsdam. After completing his studies from October 2004 to September 2008, Steiger was also a research assistant at the chair headed by Eckart Klein .

In the winter semester 2008/2009 he took over the functional representation of the junior professorship for public and European commercial law and international commercial law from Markus Krajewski at the University of Potsdam, before he started his legal clerkship at the higher court in May 2009 and at the same time worked as a research assistant at the chair for public law and international law of Heike Warrior at the Free University of Berlin . As part of his legal clerkship, Steiger also worked at the Foreign Office , the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights in Berlin and at the International Criminal Court for Rwanda in Arusha . In July 2010, received his doctorate he was with a dissertation on "The international legal ban on torture and the 'war on terror'." The work was graded summa cum laude . He passed the second state examination in May 2011. In May 2009 From September to December 2012, Steiger did a research stay at the University of Stellenbosch . Between September 2014 and June 2015 he worked as an Emile Noël Fellow at the Jean Monnet Center of the NYU School of Law on the project “The Separation of Powers Doctrine and the Power of Participation: Citizen's Influence in Delegated Rule-Making in the United States, the European Union and Germany. ”And from November 2014 to September 2015 as a DFG research fellow at the Jean Monnet Center for International and Regional Economic Law and Justice at New York University.

From May to September 2016, Steiger took over the chair for European law, international law and public law from Stephanie Schiedermair at the University of Leipzig . For this he was given leave of absence from the Free University of Berlin, where he continued to work as a research assistant at the chair for public law and international law . In July 2016 he completed his habilitation at the Free University of Berlin with a thesis on “The participatory state. Involvement of natural persons in the exercise of state authority in constitutional, administrative and procedural law ”. He received the venia legendi for the subjects of public law , international law , European law and foreign public law. In October 2016 he became a Senior Member at the Leuven Center for Global Governance Studies and Professor of International Law at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the Open Universiteit of the Netherlands. He was visiting professor at the China-EU School of Law in March 2017 .

In October 2017, Dominik Steiger took over the representation of the professorship for international law, European law and public law , whose owner Thilo Rensmann moved to the University of Augsburg in the winter semester 2016/2017 . This professorship was also offered in October 2017, and he became its holder on January 1, 2018.
