Dominique Johnson (born August 4, 1992 in Bremerhaven ) is an American - German basketball player . He played for several Bundesliga clubs and since 2019 for BV Chemnitz 99 .

Career

Johnson's American father introduced his son to basketball at an early age. From 2006 to 2009 attended Dominique Johnson, the Paul W. Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa in the US southern state of Alabama , before returning to his native city. After his return, Johnson played in the junior team of the first division Eisbären in the junior basketball league (NBBL). Under coach Hamed Attarbashi he played together with Maurice Pluskota , among others , but the team failed in the play-offs in 2010 and 2011 because they made it to the Top Four final tournament. Like Pluskota before, Johnson had his first short stint in the top men's division in the home defeat in the 2010/11 Basketball Bundesliga against Alba Berlin , against whose junior team they had already failed in the NBBL play-offs. In the following season five more appearances in the basketball Bundesliga 2011/12 were added, but otherwise Johnson played with a double license in the reserve team BSG in the fourth-class regional league .

For the 2012/13 season Johnson moved to Braunschweig , where he was initially supposed to be used mainly in the farm team of the first division Phantoms in the third-highest division ProB . In the ProB 2012/13 Johnson came up with just under six points per game with the team trading as Spot Up Medien Baskets , which, however, was eliminated in the first round of the promotion play-offs against the Ulm farm team Weißenhorn Youngstars . In the ProB 2013/14 Pluskota, who had also moved to Braunschweig, was his teammate again, but in the end you had to cancel the sails again in the first play-off round when you were defeated by the university giants Leipzig . Pluskota immediately advanced to the top scorer of the reserve and was then regularly used in the top division thanks to a double license, while Johnson, after almost ten points per game in the ProB, made seven other first division short appearances in the basketball Bundesliga 2013/14 . While the first division team in the basketball Bundesliga 2014/15 was now known as Löwen , the farm team also got a new name sponsor and reached DRUFF! Baskets again, but only barely the play-offs, in which they were eliminated in the first round against the Iserlohn Kangaroos . Of the players regularly used, Johnson was now the top scorer of the third division team with just under 14 points per game. In the first division team, which only narrowly missed the play-offs for the championship, he was unable to increase his game shares in nine short appearances.

Johnson therefore left Braunschweig and moved on to the south-east to Central German BC in Weißenfels , where he was now regularly used in the 2015/16 basketball Bundesliga and became the most productive German player in the first half of the team. As a result, this did little to help the MBC, in which the coach Silvano Poropat, equipped with a long-term contract, resigned his position at the end of the year and his successor Predrag Krunić had to take over the team with only two wins this season as bottom of the table. After relegation from the Bundesliga in spring 2016, he was directly promoted again in the 2016/17 season. Johnson, who acted as team captain, took part in 38 games on the way to winning the ProA championship title and posted an average of 8.1 points.

After the successful promotion with the MBC, Johnson left the club at his own request and returned to the Eisbären Bremerhaven. In the summer break of 2018 he joined PS Karlsruhe (2nd Bundesliga ProA) and moved within the league to Chemnitz a year later . With the Saxons, he was at the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA when the 2019/20 season was canceled in mid-March due to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus , which gave Johnson and his team the right to promotion to the Bundesliga.
