Don Shelton

Donald "Don" Shelton (born August 28, 1934 in Tyler , Texas ) is an American jazz singer ( tenor ) and woodwind player ( tenor saxophone , flute , clarinet ).

Shelton's father Clarence E. Shelton (1911–1996) was an amateur musician and record collector, his younger brother Clarence Elmo "Chip" Shelton (* 1944) is also a jazz musician. In 1957 he played with ukulele player Lyle Ritz , with whom the first recordings for Verve Records were made ( 50th State Jazz ). In the late 1950s he became a member of Bob Florence Limited Edition and replaced Bob Strasen in 1959 as singer with The Hi-Lo’s . In the following years he also played woodwind with Les Hooper , Si Zentner , Cal Tjader and Clare Fischer and was a founding member of The Singers Unlimited in 1967 as a vocalist . In the field of jazz he was involved in 126 recording sessions between 1957 and 2014, in addition to the aforementioned also with Chuck Mangione , Tom Talbert , Manhattan Transfer , Vic Lewis , Bobby Lewis , Matt Catingub , Bill Elliott , Les Brown , Joey DeFrancesco , Ray Anthony , Dianne Reeves and Phil Woods .
