Schlatkow village church in Schmatzin

The Protestant village church Schlatkow (also called Maria Magdalena Church ) is a listed hall church from the 13th century in the community of Schmatzin in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It belongs to the Protestant parish of Ziethen, Groß Bünzow and Schlatkow of the Demmin provost of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District .

history

The structure was built from field stones between 1280 and 1350 . In the Thirty Years' War and the arch was destroyed like many others in the region, but was rebuilt by the inhabitants. In 1699 it burned down after a lightning strike and was restored between 1700 and 1708 with a smaller west portal without a west tower . At the end of the 19th century, the builders framed the windows with bricks . On December 11, 1985, the roof structure collapsed . Two years later, the securing and rebuilding of the church began, which lasted until 1988. In place of the originally existing wooden barrel vault from the 18th or 19th century, the community drew a flat ceiling. In addition, she rebuilt the west gable. During the renovation work, workers uncovered a medieval painting on the east wall of the church. At the same time, experts repaired the organ .

architecture

Altarpiece

The church has a rectangular plan. The walls were built from unevenly hewn, differently sized and hardly carefully layered field stones. The builders used hewn granite blocks at the corners. On the north and south sides, four coupled arched windows are let in, the walls of which are framed with reddish bricks. There is a delicate bulge at the height of the fighter . The two arches of the windows are spanned by a narrow cornice . After the collapse in the 20th century, reddish bricks were also used above the windows for the reconstruction. On the south side below the third window - seen from the east - the remains of an arched portal can be seen, which was bricked up when the windows were rebuilt in the 19th century at the latest. The counterpart on the north side is still there.

The eastern choir gable comes from the time the church was built. It is decorated with three large, white painted and coupled panels , which are reminiscent of a group of three windows . Underneath is an opening in the shape of a basket arch, which in the 21st century is closed and plastered. The western choir gable is made of reddish brick and takes up the shape of the three-window group in its simply designed panels. Access to the church is via a simple portal below, framed with reddish bricks, which can be locked with a double-winged wooden door painted blue.

The simple gable roof is covered with reddish tiles. Ernst von Haselberg states in his documentation about the structure a total length of 19.70 meters and a width of 12 meters.

Furnishing

In the interior there is a wall painting from the 15th century on the northern part of the east wall of the nave. It shows, among other things, the Last Judgment as well as the crucified Apostle Andrew and St. Christopher . On the south east wall of the nave there is a sacrament niche with two painted angels.

The altarpiece and the pulpit are described by Dehio as "high quality". According to an inscription, both richly decorated works date from 1692. The predella of the essay shows the Lord's Supper , the apostles Simon Peter and Paul of Tarsus are on the left and right . Between the main field and the predella there is an equally ornate saying from the elevation : "See that is God's Lamb [that takes away the sins of the world]". Above that, in the main field, there is a scene with the crucifixion of Christ . Above the top there is a blown gable on which the risen Christ stands with a victory flag. The pulpit is on the south wall of the church and is carried by the Archangel Michael . On the way up to the pulpit there are pictures of the Evangelists , Aaron , Solomon , David as well as pictures of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchton . The standing baptismal angel under a canopy with volutes on the north side of the church dates from the beginning of the 18th century. There is also a 1.06 meter wide grave slab made of limestone for those von Horn with an incised drawing of a knight from the 16th century and two other grave slabs from around 1800 in the church. A box for wafers made of gold-plated silver bears the von Wolfradt coat of arms and the inscription "ADVW 1670".

organ

The organ with a neo-Romanesque front was built by Barnim Grüneberg from Stettin in 1863 . The Opus 63 is equipped with turrets, a Zinnenbekrönung and several friezes decorated. The prospectus is decorated with a psalm “All that breathes, praise the Lord” (Ps. 150,6). The organ has a manual with six registers and two pedal registers as well as the following disposition :
