Douglas Kennedy (actor)
Douglas Richards Kennedy (born September 14, 1915 in New York City , † August 10, 1973 in Honolulu , Hawaii ) was an American actor .
Life
Douglas Richards Kenndy studied at both Deerfield Academy and Amherst College . He made his film debut in 1935 as an unnamed agent in William Keighley's crime film The FBI Agent alongside James Cagney and Margaret Lindsay . He was a contract actor with Paramount Pictures and later with Warner Bros. Between 1942 and 1946 Kennedy made no more films. During this time he served as a major in the United States Army Signal Corps during World War II , collaborating with the Office of Strategic Services and United States Army Intelligence .
After the war, Kennedy played in successful films such as Silent Lips , The Love Adventures of Don Juan , The Street of the Successful and Star from Broadway , but rarely got beyond minor roles. In the 1950s he became a regular supporting actor in westerns , portraying both good and bad characters. He only had leading roles in low-budget films . With the advent of television, Kennedy became a serial actor and starred in such television series as The Lone Ranger , Perry Mason , Bonanza and Big Valley , starring in the television series Steve Donovan, Western Marshal from 1955 to 1956 .
Kennedy was married twice. From 1942 on with Isabel Murray Russell, with whom he had four children. And after the divorce from 1955 until his death in 1973 with Betty L. "Bunny" Howell, with whom he had two children.
On August 10, 1973, Kenndy died at the age of 57 of complications from his cancer while filming the television series Hawaii Five-Zero . He was buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific .
