action

Coincidentally, the Lone Ranger and his blood brother Tonto witness an attack by masked bandits on an Indian. Unfortunately they can no longer prevent the Indian's death. When the Lone Ranger catches one of the bandits, it comes to a duel in which the criminal falls down a rocky slope and perishes. The two friends find a baby in the Indian's overturned carriage, which they bring to the nearby mission station along with the Indian's corpse .

Padre Esteban can identify the dead Indian as an employee of France Henderson. The bandits are not unknown in the area, another Indian has already been killed by them. The Indian girl Paviva takes care of the baby while Tonto rides into town to fetch Doctor Rolfe to look after the child. When Tonto reaches the town of Cibola , two of the bandits present recognize him as the companion of the masked rider. The sheriff, with his hostile nature towards Indians, refuses to tell Tonto where the doctor can be found. When the two bandits start a fight with Tonto on a pretext, the doctor intervenes. Rolfe leads Tonto to the mission station and examines the toddler.

During the night, the ranger and Tonto are ambushed by a group of Pueblo Indians led by the young warrior Redwing, who they believe to be the murderer of their tribal brother. The ranger can convince the group of their innocence. Redwing tells the ranger about an old legend, a golden cave, which is said to be hidden here.

As the leader of the bandits, Frances Henderson and her partner Ross Brady turn out to be in search of the golden cave. The way there is an inscription on an old silver tablet which has been divided into five amulets . Disguised as a bounty hunter , the Lone Ranger visits Frances Henderson's ranch. As a camouflage, the latter offered a reward for catching the worker's murderers. The wife of the killed Indian also works for Francis. The disguised ranger learns from her that she cannot explain why her husband was killed. The only valuable thing in his possession would be an amulet, which he wore on a chain around his neck.

The stagecoach reports in Cibola that the supply station was attacked and burned down. He brought the body of the Indian found there. When the ranger and Tonto search the burned down supply station, they find a broken chain. The masked rider remembers what the housekeeper said about the amulet. Through the old chief Tomache, the Lone Ranger now also learns about the treasure map on the amulets. Three of the amulets are already in the hands of the bandits, another amulet is carried by Tomache's brother, who is on the journey by stagecoach. The ranger and Tonto set off immediately, but they can no longer prevent the ambush of the stagecoach. They save the Indian's life, but the amulet comes into the possession of the bandits. The Lone Ranger can find and arrest one of the bandits in the pursuit. He is locked up in prison.

When the Pueblo Indians hear of the bandit's arrest, they ride into town. They free the scoundrel from captivity in order to convict him according to Indian law. In order to identify the remaining bandits, the criminal is tortured by the Indians. Ross, who was chasing the Indians, shoots the prisoner. Now the ranger, informed by the padre about the kidnapping, arrives at the Indian settlement. Redwing reports that the dead man accused Ross Brady of being the leader of the criminals before he died.

Again the ranger visits Henderson Farm disguised as a bounty hunter. He reveals to Ross and Frances not only to know about the amulets, but to have the last one. He demands a share of the gold.

When the doctor rides into town with Paviva and the baby, an incident occurs when the sheriff insults the Indian woman. The present Tonto gets into a duel with the racist sheriff and is shot by him. Now Rolfe out himself as an Indian that he is Tomache's grandson. During the confession, he reveals his amulet to the citizens concerned. This is identified by Brady as the missing piece of the treasure map. Then Rolfe treats the unconscious Tonto and leaves town with Paviva and the child.

When Tonto wakes from his unconsciousness, he asks the padre to tell the Lone Ranger that Rolfe is in possession of the last amulet. Tonto manages to overtake Rolfes' carriage in front of Brady. He hides the two in an abandoned pueblo. During the fight with the bandits, Tonto is shot. Brady manages to steal the amulet from the doctor and tries to escape with the baby as a hostage. Lone Ranger has meanwhile also reached the battlefield. Brady manages to reach the ranch, shot by the ranger. The greedy Frances kills the weakened Brady to get the last amulet. The scene is watched by the ranger, he arrests Frances and hands her over to the marshal. Eventually the Indians find the golden cave on their land, Tonto and the ranger can move on.
