Dragonheads (dt. Scorpion ) is the first EP of the Finnish Folk / Viking metal band Ensiferum . The name refers to the dragon heads on the bow of Viking ships . The EP was recorded in November 2005 at Sonic Pump Studios . It was released on February 15, 2006 by Spinefarm Records in Finland, and on March 31, 2006 in Germany by Soulfood .

It is the first publication on which the then new members Petri Lindroos , Sami Hinkka and Janne Parviainen could be heard. The songs Warrior's Quest and White Storm appeared on the '99 demo and were re-recorded for Dragonheads. The Finnish Medley is a medley of the Finnish traditionals Karjalan Kunnailla , Myrskyluodon Maija and Metsämiehen Laulu .

criticism

After the first two albums, Ensiferum and Iron , were highly praised by the trade press, Dragonheads received mostly neutral to very bad reviews. This was mainly due to the fact that of the six songs only the title song Dragonheads was rewritten, the other songs are only new recordings of former demo songs and covers.

The criticism on the vampster.com website is still quite neutral:

"Anyone who already owns all their works can confidently save their money for the next album - this EP is only of interest to newbies who for whatever reason cannot get their hands on ' Ensiferum ' or ' Iron '.

- Arlette Huguenin : CD review

One of the worst reviews came from metal1.info - the EP was rated 0 out of 10 points:

“Overall, the 'Dragonheads' is a big disappointment. While I sat with my mouth open in front of the system when I first listened to 'Ensiferum' and 'Iron' and couldn't get enough of the music, this is just an absolutely poor EP. [...]. I want to hope that the songwriting will not stay on the 'Dragonheads' level, but will grow until the next album, so that you can at least get close to old achievements. If not, I see black for a band that has rightly built a large fan base and has just released two great albums. "

- Stefan Popp : CD review

Metal.de gave Dragonheads only 6 out of 10 points:

“The shot backfired by ENSIFERUM standards. "Dragonheads" should certainly serve as a kind of aperitif for the next studio album or the soon to be released 10 year DVD, but now I'm more concerned about whether the new album can really build on the old glory. What a shame!"
