production

In February 2012, the band began recording the then unnamed album. They also published weekly news about the production of the album on their Facebook page and YouTube channel . As with previous albums, this time they have guest musicians again, such as members of the band Die Apokalyptischen Reiter and the Finnish singer and actor Vesa-Matti Loiri , who were involved in the production of Unsung Heroes. The artwork for the album cover is by Kristian Wåhlin .

In May the band revealed the title of the album Unsung Heroes in advance and announced August 27th as the release date. Just like the previous albums, it was released by Spinefarm Records. On July 9th they presented the video for Burning Leaves , one of the new songs, on their homepage.

Trivia

  • The song Pohjola should have already been included on Victory Songs (2007), but at that time it was only worked out in fragments and only finished for Unsung Heroes.
  • The band met guest singer Laura Dziadulewicz at the Spinefarm Summer Camp 2011. Toivonen explained how the collaboration came about to the German metal hammer as follows: "One night Laura was playing the acoustic guitar in the middle of nature - her voice was so beautiful. I immediately asked her if she would sing a piece for us. Luckily she did she promised. "
  • That Volk-Man, Ady and Fuchs appear in the song Passion Proof Power is more of a coincidence. According to Sami Hinkaa, this came about because Ensiferum "had [had] the idea of integrating a medieval market scenario into [their] music for years. [With] it 'Passion Proof Power" [was] the longest song [in their] history before [so that the band] [wanted] to put a break in it to add drama. " In the course of this, the band came up with the idea of a "medieval market scenario" again, whereupon they turned to their management with the request to find German speakers. Ultimately, the Horsemen of the Apocalypse were chosen by Spinefarm Records and not by Ensiferum. It is also interesting that Fuchs pronounces the band name incorrectly. He announced the group as "Ensiferium" - ie with an additional I - to.
