Drop C tuning (CGCFAD) (listen)

The Drop C tuning is a Scordatura the guitar . The lowest string is tuned two whole tones lower than the standard tuning (E - A - d - g - h - e 1 ) , while all other strings are tuned one whole tone lower. Thus the tuning scheme of a dropped-C-tuned guitar is C - G - c - f - a - d 1 .

The dropped C tuning can also be described as a dropped D tuning tuned a whole tone lower . Mostly it can be found in Metalcore and Nu Metal , but some bands from other Metal - and Post-Hardcore styles also use dropped-C-tuned guitars and basses . Thicker strings are often chosen here.
