The Drybrough Cup was played for the third time in 1973 . The Scottish Football Cup competition, which was run by the Scottish Football Association, began on July 28, 1973 and ended with the final on August 4, 1973 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . The four best-placed teams from the first and second Scottish leagues of the 1972/73 season took part in the competition. The competition took place in knockout mode and consisted of the 1st round, the semi-finals and the final. In the final, Hibernian Edinburgh and Celtic Glasgow faced each other for the second time . The Hibs won the final 1-0 with a goal from Alan Gordon in extra time. The capital club won the Drybrough Cup for the second time. For Celtic it was the third consecutive defeat in the final.
