Düdul Dorje ( Tib .: bdud 'dul rdo rje ; * 1733 ; † 1797 ) was the 13th Karmapa of the Karma Kagyü School of Tibetan Buddhism .

Life

Düdul Dorje was found by Chökyi Chungne (1700–1774; 8th Tai Situpa ) in Nyen Chawatrong , which confirms the written statements of Changchub Dorje . He was brought to Tshurphu and recognized and enthroned there at the age of four by the 7th Goshri Gyeltshab Rinpoche Könchog Öser (1699–1765). From the age of eight he received the complete teachings of the Kagyu from his main teacher, the 8th Tai Situpa. He also studied under Kathog Rigdzin Tshewang Norbu (1698–1755), the 7th Gyelwang Drugpa Rinpoche Thrinle Shingta (1718–1766), Pawo Tsuglag Gawa (1718 / 19–1781) and others.

Legends

According to a prediction by Guru Rinpoche , the Jokang Temple, which houses one of the most sacred Buddha images in Tibet, the Jowo Shakyamuni , was threatened by a flood at that time and only the Karmapa should be able to stop this flood. For this reason he was asked to come by the Lhasa authorities at the time. Since he was indispensable in Tsurphu, he sent a letter invoking the blessing of Avalokitesvara . When the 13th Karmapa was later able to visit the temple, he offered the Jowo Shakyamuni a white khata , and the statue's arms are said to have changed position to accept the gift. You have remained in this position to this day.

When Düdul Dorje was once asked to consecrate a distant monastery, he is said to have stayed in Tshurphu and threw grains of blessing into the air at the right moment of the dedication ceremony. They are said to have fallen from the sky there, even though the ceremony took place hundreds of kilometers away.

line

Düdul Dorje, Tai Situpa and Kathog Rigdzin Tshewang Norbu recognized Chödrub Gyatsho (1742–1792), the younger brother of the 4th Panchen Lama Lobsang Pelden Yeshe as the 10th Shamarpa . When Düdul Dorje died, the 9th Tai Situpa Pema Nyinche Wangpo (1774–1853) became the main lineage holder of the Karma Kagyu.
