Map of the Duronto connections in 2010

Duronto Express (from Bengali দুরন্ত , duranta , dt. Restless, restless, unruly ) is a train type of high-quality night trains of the Indian Railways . The trains connect the most important cities with a few stops.

history

The range of Duronto trains was developed in order to be able to offer faster connections without building high-speed lines. The first Duronto Express ran on September 18, 2009 between Sealdah station in Calcutta and Delhi and covered this route non-stop with only three technical stops. These were only released for passenger change in 2016.

offer

25 Duronto connections were offered in the 2020 timetable. The trains are the fastest connections between the big cities, the travel time is shorter than on the Rajdhani Express trains.

The ticket prices are based on supply and demand and are designed dynamically .

For the trains, high-quality LHB wagons in a yellow-green paintwork are used, which are hauled by a WAP-7 on electrified lines ; diesel locomotives of the classes WDP-4B and WDP-4D are used on non-electrified lines . The trains reach a top speed of 130 km / h .

Some trains are en route for more than a day. The longest connection runs from Ernakulam in the state of Kerala in southern India to Delhi and takes almost two days on the 2639 km long line. To Vadodara the train is run by a diesel locomotive, then an electric locomotive covered the train to Delhi. The train only runs once a week.

Comfort

The trains offer the following carriage classes :

  • First Class AC (A1): Sleeping car with 2 or 4-bed compartments
  • AC 2-tier sleeper (A2): couchette car with 4-person compartments
  • AC 3-tier sleeper (A3): couchette car with 6-person compartments, two couchettes one above the other along the side aisle

Some also offer:

  • Sleeper Class (SL): couchette coaches with 6-person compartments without air conditioning
  • AC 3-tier economy (E2): couchette coaches with 6-person compartments, three couchettes one above the other along the side aisle. This car class is only offered in a few trains.

Meals are included in the price of the ticket. It is prepared in the kitchen trolley on most trains and served to the seat. Sockets for the passengers are available.
