ESL Pro League Season 7

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ESL Pro League Season 7 ( EPL Season 7 for short ) was the seventh season of the ESL Pro League organized by the ESL . It started on February 13, 2018 and ended with the offline finale at the Verizon Theater in Dallas on May 20, 2018 with a win from Astralis .

format

It was first played on every continent in a double round robin online championship for a place in the offline final. The eleven best teams from the sixth season took part, as well as the winner of ESEA Premier Season 26 and two teams from the ESL Pro League Season 6 relegation . During the regular season, each team played twice against each other in a best-of-one duel, with the winner receiving three points and the loser receiving no points. In the event of a tie, the game was extended by six rounds, the winner received two points and the loser one point.

Since the ESL wants to standardize its offline tournaments to 16 participants and the North American division consists of only twelve teams, a special regulation had to be found for participation in the finals. It was decided that the European division will get a seventh place in the final, North America will keep the six places in the final, and the Asia-Pacific region will get two starting places that will be played in a separate offline event in Sydney , as well as South America one starting place that will be included in the " ESL Latin America League Season 1 ”was played.

game schedule

The online divisions in Europe and North America were held in seven weeks, from Tuesday to Thursday.

  • Week 1: February 13 - February 15, 2018

The first game in front of an audience at the Verizon Theater in Dalls was the quarter-finals between mousesports and Team Liquid. The “map pick” from mousesports de_mirage was the first map of the game, no winner was found here in regular time, in the second extra time Team Liquid won the first map with 22:20 . At de_dust2 , the decision turned out to be a clear matter, in front of the home crowd, Team Liquid fixed their place in the semi-finals with a 16: 4 victory. The second quarter-final was a clash between FaZe Clan and SK Gaming, here the first map on de_overpass was close, but ended in regular time with a 16:13 victory for the mixed European team. On the second map FaZe left the South Americans no chance already at half-time it was with 13: 2 lead and then took only six more laps around with a 16: 5 to fix -Sieg a place in the semifinals. The first semi-final of the tournament took place between the winner of Group A - Natus Vincere, and the domestic team Liquid. In an overall exciting duel, the North Americans defeated the Ukrainian-Russian team with 16:14 on de_dust2 and 16:10 on de_inferno and thus made it into the grand finale. The second semi-final promised to be a great duel between two of the best European teams at the moment - Astralis and FaZe. But the Danish team around their "in-game leader" Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander dominated both maps at will. On de_mirage FaZe's map-pick, Astralis won with 16: 3 , on de_inferno they finally reached the finals with 16: 6 . In the grand finale, Astralis was considered a big favorite after their convincing performances and on the first map de_dust2 the Danes more than lived up to their favorite status and got the first map point with a 16: 1 win. So one-sided the other maps in a row did not go more, before a home crowd TeamLiquid had to put the Europeans in a row more accommodating, the second map had de_nuke even 14:16 post, took on de_mirage but with 16:14 connecting point first map loss of the Danes during the tournament. However, the decision was made on de_inferno and Astralis won the final with a 16:10 .
