history
Eagle Air was founded in 1970 by Hördur Gudmundsson and his family under the name Flugfélagið Ernir in Ísafjörður . The company initially offered national air taxi services on a charter flight basis , with an emphasis on ambulance flights. These were extended to Europe in the mid-1980s. In addition, medical supply flights have also been carried out in East Africa under the name Enir Airlines since the early 1990s . At that time, the company used De Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter, among others . In 2003 the business area was expanded and in addition to medical rescue flights and tourist charter flights, national scheduled services were also offered. With the start of regional scheduled flight operations, the company changed its name to Ernir Air . In 2008, the company name was again changed to Eagle Air .
In January 2019, the airline was grounded by the Icelandic Isavia due to outstanding payments . The company resumed operations on February 4, 2019 after a one-month break.
