The Eastern Dream is a Ro-Pax - ferry the South Korean shipping company DBS Cruise Ferry.
history
The ship was under the hull number on the 1,001 yard Hayashikane Shipbuilding & Engineering in Nagasaki , Japan , built. The keel was laid on March 31st, the launch on July 2nd, 1993. The ship was completed on September 27, 1993.
The ship came under the flag of Japan as Queen Coral for the Japanese Marix Line, which it used in the ferry service between Kagoshima on the island of Kyushu and several islands of the Amami and Okinawa Islands .
From 2009 the ship operated under the Panamanian flag as Eastern Dream for the South Korean DBS Cruise Ferry in the Sea of Japan between Vladivostok in Russia , Donghae in South Korea and Sakaiminato in Japan. At the end of November 2019, the ferry service was stopped due to political differences between South Korea and Japan.
Technical data and equipment
The ship is powered by two four-stroke - nine cylinder - diesel engines with a total of 10,072 kW power driven. The cruising speed of the ship is given as around 20 kn . Three diesel generators with 900 kVA apparent power are available to generate electricity on board .
The ship is equipped with a closed vehicle deck. This is accessible via two stern ramps that can be folded down at the side .
Above the vehicle deck there are three decks with the facilities for the passengers. These were partially rebuilt before the ferry service in the Sea of Japan began. For example, additional superstructures were built in the bow area . Previously, there were spaces available here for containers . A loading boom was available for cargo handling . The ship is equipped with cabins and dormitories, including shared accommodation for 8, 12 or 20 passengers and a dormitory for 96 passengers. Most of the cabins have bunk beds or mattresses on the cabin floor. Most of the cabins do not have their own sanitary facilities. Shared showers and toilets are available for the cabins on the respective decks. The passenger capacity is given as 500 to 530 people.
