Edidiong Ofonime Odiong (born March 13, 1997 ) is a Bahraini sprinter of Nigerian origin who has been eligible to compete in Bahrain since 2015.

Athletic career

For the first time at international championships Edidiong Odiong competed at the 2013 African Youth Championships in Warri . There she won the gold medal over 400 meters. So she qualified for the Youth World Championships in Donetsk , where she finished fifth in 54.14 s. In addition, she was disqualified in the preliminary run with the Nigerian sprint relay (1000 meters). A year later, she was sixth over 400 meters at the Junior World Championships in Eugene and finished fifth with the Nigerian 4-by-400-meter relay. Since then it has started under the flag of Bahrain. At the Arab Championships in Madinat Isa , she won gold over 200 meters and with the Bahraini 4 x 100 meter relay. She also won gold at the Pan-Arab Games in Manama and at the Military World Games in Mungyeong in South Korea over 200 meters, as well as bronze with the 4 x 400 meter relay. In 2016 she won the gold medal at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz in the 200-meter run with a new U20 record of 22.84 seconds. She also qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she reached the semifinals with a new record of 22.74 s .

In 2017 she won gold over 200 meters and with both sprint relays at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku . With her performance she also qualified for the World Championships in London , where she reached the semi-finals over 200 meters and was eliminated there with 23.24 seconds. In 2018 she took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta , where she won the 100 and 200 meters, as well as the 4-by-100-meter relay. In addition, she won the silver medal in the 4-by-400-meter relay behind the Indian team. At the Continental Cup in Ostrava at the beginning of September , she finished fifth with a new national record of 22.62 s. The following year, she won the bronze medal with the relay behind China and Kazakhstan at the Asian Championships in Doha in 43.61 s. In addition, she finished fourth in the 200-meter run in 23.24 s. In October she finished eighth and seventh over 100 and 200 meters at the Military World Games in Wuhan in 11.94 s and 23.82 s and won the bronze medal in 44.24 s with the 4 x 100 meter relay behind the teams from Brazil and China.

Odiong is a student at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro .
