Edis Matusevičius (born June 30, 1996 ) is a Lithuanian javelin thrower .

Athletic career

Edis Matusevičius gained his first international experience in 2013 at the Youth World Championships in Donetsk , where he was eliminated from the qualification with a width of 68.88 m, as well as at the European Junior Championships the following week in Rieti with 63.84 m. The following year he took sixth place at the 2014 Junior World Championships in Eugene with 70.58 m and in 2015 he won the silver medal at the European Junior Championships in Eskilstuna with a throw of 77.48 m. In 2016 he took part in the European Championships in Amsterdam for the first time, but was eliminated there with 77.86 m in the qualification. The following year he was at the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz with 76.82 m fifth and at the World Championships in London he succeeded in qualifying no valid attempt. Only two weeks later he took part in the Summer Universiade in Taipei for the first time, but also retired there with 70.61 m in the qualification.

In 2018 he reached the final at the European Championships in Berlin, where he finished tenth with a throw on 77.64 m. The following year he won the silver medal behind Moldovan Andrian Mardare at the Student World Games in Naples with 80.07 m and also qualified again for the World Championships in Doha , where he did not reach the final with 79.60 m .

From 2015 to 2019, Matusevičius became the Lithuanian javelin throwing champion every year.

Personal

Matusevičius is part of a successful family; so his mother Dalia Matusevičienė was active as a middle distance runner for the Soviet Union and his father Edmuntas Matusevičius was a javelin thrower and baseball player and also worked as an athletics trainer. In addition, his brother Edvardas Matusevičius is also active as a baseball player.
