Edith Kneifl

Edith Kneifl (born January 1, 1954 in Wels , Upper Austria) is an Austrian writer. She is one of the most successful crime novelists in Austria; her novels have been translated into several languages.

Life

Edith Kneifl spent childhood and youth in Lenzing / Upper Austria . Her parents were Elisabeth Kneifl, born in Essen under the maiden name Reddig, and her Austrian father Rudolf Kneifl. The mother was an elementary school teacher, a socialist politician in the 1960s and then a librarian. Father Rudolf worked as a commercial clerk, later he was the social democratic mayor of the industrial community of Lenzing for years.

After attending grammar school in Vöcklabruck , Edith Kneifl studied psychology and ethnology at the University of Vienna between 1973 and 1980 , where she received her PhD in 1980. phil. PhD. She then worked in the inter-ministerial working group on dealing with issues specific to women in the field of education (1981/82). In addition, she was involved as an organizer with “Artists for Peace” until 1983 and worked as a journalist at the Austrian Documentation and Information Center (1982–1984). In 1986 she settled in Vienna and published short stories in anthologies until her first great success - the crime novel Between Two Nights .

Edith Kneifl was an active athlete until she was 33. She played table tennis in the Austrian State League, was multiple Upper Austrian champion and member of the Austrian national team. Her hobbies are reading, traveling and sailing. She owns a small yacht Miss Marple (sic!), With which she often sails in the Adriatic. Edith Kneifl was married to the Austrian painter Rainer Wölzl, her second husband was the doctor Dr. Erwin Logar.

After long stays abroad in Greece and the USA, Edith Kneifl lives and works today (2012) in Vienna as a psychoanalyst and freelance author. She is a member of the AIEP (Asociacion International de Escritores Policiacos), the Sisters in Crime and the authors' group of German-language crime literature - Das Syndikat .
