Eduard Fischer (mycologist)
Eduard Ludwig Fischer (born June 16, 1861 in Bern ; † November 18, 1939 there ) was a Swiss botanist who achieved importance primarily as a mycologist . His botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is " E. Fisch. ».
Life
Eduard Fischer was born on June 16, 1861 as the son of the botanist Ludwig Fischer in Bern. Fischer studied at the University of Bern and received his doctorate in 1883 with the mushroom researcher Anton de Bary in Strasbourg . Further studies in Berlin followed until he was appointed private lecturer at the University of Bern in 1885 . In 1893 he was appointed associate professor there. From 1897 to 1933 he was full professor of botany and director of the botanical garden . During his tenure, the large lecture hall was rebuilt in 1906 , the orangery and the palm house were built, and the Schynige Platte alpine garden was opened in 1929 . In 1910/1911 he was rector of the University of Bern.
Eduard Fischer married Johanna Gruner in 1899, who came from a family of scholars in Bern. He died on November 18, 1939 at the age of 78 in Bern. He was the father of the musicologist and pianist Kurt von Fischer .
Act
Eduard Fischer dealt intensively with the history of the development of mushrooms. To this end, he wrote large monographs, many of them on rust fungi . In addition, he wrote numerous works on the history of biology and the philosophy of science . Twelve species of mushrooms were named after him by their discoverers. From 1917 to 1922 he headed the Swiss Natural Research Society as central president.
