Eginhard Wegner

Eginhard Wegner (* July 8, 1918 in Anklam ; † January 20, 2001 in Greifswald ; full name: Eginhard Friedrich Ludolf Wegner ) was a lecturer in geography at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University in Greifswald.

Life

Wegner was born as the son of the royal Prussian seminar teacher Dr. phil. Otto Wegner and his wife Margarete, b. Koerk, born in Anklam. Due to a career change of his father he came to the provincial capital Stettin , where he attended elementary school from 1925 to 1929 and then until autumn 1937 the city high school, which later became the council school, high school for boys. He then studied until the summer of 1939 at the college for teacher training in Kiel . In autumn 1939 Wegner was called up for military service and participated in World War II until the end of the war in 1945. He was then a prisoner of war until 1947.

After his release, he moved to Greifswald, where he began studying geography, history, German and education. At the same time, he began working as a research assistant, and later as a research assistant at the Geographical Institute of Greifswald University. In 1951 he passed the pedagogical state examination and in 1952 the specialist examination in history. In 1959 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the historical geography of Western Pomerania as a "doctor rerum naturalium".

In 1949 he married Gertraud Blaudow. The two children were born in 1950 and 1952. In 1969 Wegner was promoted to senior scientific assistant and in the same year he received the " facultas docendi ". In 1971 he became a lecturer in political and economic geography and in 1976 deputy section director for research. In 1983 Wegner retired after reaching the age limit.

From then on, but increasingly from 1990 onwards, he devoted himself to the further edition of the Swedish land survey of Western Pomerania . On his 80th birthday he received a festschrift from students and friends. In May 2001 a memorial colloquium with the focus on historical geography took place in Greifswald. His dissertation, previously only partially published, was published in 2009 by the Historical Commission for Pomerania .
