The single settlement is one of the 26 officially named parts of the municipality of the independent city of Straubing. The capital Straubing is to the west and north, Ittling to the east and Aiterhofen to the south .

The location in the core area of the Gäuboden in the Danube Valley is linked to fertile soils. The climate in Eglsee is mild and relatively low in precipitation.

Eglsee is the seat of a large agricultural company with around 200 hectares of land.

In Eglsee today there are a total of seven residential units spread over three inhabited buildings. The historic Eglseer Hof is house number 1, the former distillery is house number 2 (2WE), house number 3 is a former company building (4WE).

history

The name Eglsee indicates leech breeding, an old medical trade.

Eglsee is not yet listed in the Duke's Surbar from 1310. In a description of the court marks from 1597, the place is listed under the main Itling team. In 1599 it is subject to the jurisdiction of the Ittling Obmannschaft and is listed in the investment register of 1785 under the Ittling rural community. Despite belonging to the municipality of Ittling, Eglsee belonged to the parish of St. Peter in Straubing and also to the district of the Old Town School in Straubing since 1821 at the latest .

Eglsee belonged to the municipality of Ittling until June 30, 1972 , which was dissolved in the course of the regional reform in Bavaria and incorporated into the independent city of Straubing.

A renaming of the place to "Gut Eglsee" requested by the residents was rejected by the Straubing City Council on June 29, 2015. At the time, the city councilor argued, "The term" good "was foreign and unhistorical in Old Bavaria." The head of the Straubing City Archives had pleaded for the name change to "Gut Eglsee" based on a description of the development towards "Gut Eglsee".

In the current community file, Eglsee is listed as a wasteland , as Eglsee had two buildings with living space when the topographical names were last updated on the occasion of the census on May 25, 1987. Taking into account the current situation, the district would have to be referred to as a hamlet in view of three inhabited buildings , as already happened in the list of localities from 1925 (at that time four residential buildings), since in Bavaria, according to the resolution of the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior of October 18, 1950, a place with three up to nine residential buildings is generally considered a hamlet.
