geography

Spring streams

Confluence of Hügelsbach (back left) and Sangenbach (back right) to Altenbach

Hügelsbach

The Hügelsbach rises south of Aschaffenburg- Schweinheim near the barbecue area on Ebersbacher Straße. The source area is still a restricted area due to the risk of detonation and is only grazed by sheep. The Hügelsbach runs in a southerly direction and is reinforced from the right by the outflow from the Breitenbrunnen. The Hügelsbach is about 1 km long, the shorter, but much richer spring stream.

Sangenbach

The source of the 2.8 km long Sangenbach, also called Reichenbach , is located south of Gailbach between the mountains Spießknückel (358 m) and Stengerts (347 m). It runs through the Viehruhgraben and receives the inflow from the Goldgraben, which rises from the Reichenbacherbrunnen. From here the Sangenbach runs through the Lichten Sanggraben and reaches the former military restricted area. It fills the artificially created sand lake above Ebersbacher Straße and unites at the lower end of the Honiggrund in the approximately 14 hectare Altenbachgrund nature reserve .

course

Shortly after the confluence of the source streams, the Altenbach is additionally reinforced by the Elbertsbrunnen . This spring was taken in 1935 by the Obernau and Schweinheim hiking clubs . The Altenbach runs in a southerly direction and runs in a south-west curve as a border stream to the Miltenberg district around the Obernau glider airfield . There he ran the Altenbachsmühle until the beginning of the 20th century . After flowing through some fish ponds, the Altenbach passes under the state road 2309 and the route of the Aschaffenburg-Miltenberg railway line and flows north of Sulzbach from the right into the Main .

Catchment area

The 8.4 km² catchment area of the Altenbach lies in the southwestern Sandstone Spessart and is drained through it via the Main and the Rhine to the North Sea.
