Ehrenfeld is a district in the Moitzfeld district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

The place name Ehrenfeld is mentioned in the files for the first time in 1831. The name developed from the word Irlenfeld (from Erlenfeld) that was used at this point . With the boom in the coal and steel industry in the second half of the 19th century, the town of Ehrenfeld also grew. In 1905 there were 12 residential buildings with 76 inhabitants. Ehrenfeld gave its name to the workers' support association Ehrenfel , which had to represent the interests of the miners in the surrounding mines, and finally for the miners at the Lüderich mine .

Mining

Ehrenfeld was surrounded by many mines that had already been mined in the Middle Ages . Immediately in the village was the Ehrenfeld mine, belonging to the apple mine , on whose machine shaft dump houses were built. Parts of the heap that reach down into the neighboring Volbach Valley are still visible today. The other pits in which Ehrenfeld miners worked include the Berzelius mine and the Weiß mine .
