The current spelling “Eich” has been in use since 1793. The place name means "place on a large, conspicuous oak". Eich was dominated by agriculture until the 18th century. In 1795 Georg Christoph Piering founded a Pechsiederei west of the village, which is still in operation today. Opposite this, with the opening of the Herlasgrün – Oelsnitz railway line in 1865, the town's train station was laid out. Although it was only 500 meters away from Eich, it was initially given the name of the neighboring town of Lengenfeld. Only after this in 1875 with the at the railway Zwickau-Falkenstein lie station Lengenfeld (Vogtl) received closer to the town station, the station was in the district of Eichmann in 1879 in Oak renamed.

Until 1856, Eich belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Plauen . In 1856 the place was affiliated with the Treuen court office and in 1875 with the Auerbach administration .
