Eichbüchl is a part of the municipality of Katzelsdorf / Leitha in the Wiener Neustadt district in Lower Austria . It lies at an altitude of 275 to 380 meters.

The place is nestled between the Leitha and the slopes of the Rosaliengebirge .

history

Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg .

Later under the Romans, today's Eichbüchl was then in the province of Pannonia .

The history of Eichbüchl Castle should reliably go back to the 14th century. Eichbüchl Castle was probably destroyed by the repeated Turkish invasions in the 16th century. It could not be documented who the builders were, but there are many moments, such as the association of coats of arms, heraldic finds, etc., that it was the Lords of Vierding named in the valid book as the first owners, and that these Eichbüchl were already in the 14th century have owned. The first documented owner was Georg Hohenkirchner zu Tegernau and Aichbüchel in the 15th century. The village of Eichbüchl was founded in 1611 by one of the previous owners, Katharina von Donawitz, Frau zu Eichbüchl. The castle got its current appearance at the turn of the century.

In 1888 the village of Eichbüchl was incorporated with Katzelsdorf.

During the Second World War , the German Wehrmacht moved into the castle.

Eichbüchl Castle

In April 1945 Eichbüchl became the central point of Austria . Karl Renner , who was brought from Gloggnitz via Hochwolkersdorf to Eichbüchl Castle, was commissioned to form a provisional Austrian state government. A memorial plaque in the castle still reminds of this time today.

The castle is now privately owned and can be viewed from the outside.
