1787: The young composer Mozart finds himself in financial need. Then he received a message from the Prague Opera that wanted him to conduct the premiere of his latest work Don Giovanni . Mozart got the traveling car of the Baroness von Waldstätten, who has always been a generous patron of the composer. Together with his wife Constanze, Mozart sets out on a trip to Prague. You spend the night in an inn and Mozart takes a short walk before going to bed. He gets to know the young Countess Eugenie, who celebrates her engagement that evening. She asks Mozart to attend the festival. He's on fire for the pretty countess and doesn't return to his wife until the next morning. The night with Eugenie helped him to find a suitable ending for the opera performance. The premiere in Prague is proving to be an overwhelming success for Mozart.

A little night music was first performed in Prague on December 18, 1939. The film had its German premiere on February 7, 1940. On August 25, 1957, it was shown on East German television.
