The Eistobel area is a nature reserve (NSG-00093.01) in the Eistobel , a section of the Upper Argen in the area of the Bavarian communities of Grünenbach and Maierhöfen in the district of Lindau in Germany, designated by ordinance of September 4, 1970 by the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance .
The nature reserve is part of the FFH area "Allgäuer Molassetobel" (8326-371).
location
The approximately 70 hectare Eistobel nature reserve is part of the Adelegg . It is located east of the center of Grünenbach and southwest of Maierhöfen at an altitude of between 718 m above sea level. NHN at the southeast end, below the sawmill at Schüttentobel , and about 660 m above sea level. NHN at the northern end of the protected area at the Argentobel Bridge .
The Eistobel , which was formed around 15,000 years ago since the end of the last ice age , is now traversed by the Upper Argen , which has created whirlpool holes , cascades and waterfalls over the millennia , over its entire length of around two and a half kilometers .
Protection purpose
The main protection purpose is the preservation of the unspoilt stretch of gorge of the Upper Argen in molasse rocks of the Westallgäu mountainous region with waterfalls, rapids, whirlpool holes, rock falls and geologically and morphologically interesting formations.
Flora and fauna

From the flora worthy of protection within the mighty maple , beech , ash and even yew stock, the following plant species (selection) should be mentioned:
- Real cowslip ( Primula veris ), a species from the primrose family
- Gray alder or white alder ( Alnus incana ) is a deciduous tree from the birch family
- Marsh marigold ( Caltha palustris ), a member of the buttercup family
fauna
In addition to stoneflies and vortex worms, the following species (selection) should be mentioned from the fauna worthy of protection :
- Brown trout ( Salmo trutta fario ), a salmonid predatory fish
- Blue-winged demoiselle ( Calopteryx virgo ), a species from the demoiselle family
- Dipper ( Cinclus cinclus ), the only representative of the dipper family to be found in Central Europe
