Ekkehard Nuissl

Ekkehard Nuissl (born June 15, 1946 in Kiel ) is a German university professor for adult education . From 1991 to 2011 he was director of the German Institute for Adult Education (DIE) in Bonn , since 1991 he has been professor for adult education, currently (2017) at the Universities of Kaiserslautern (as senior professor) and Toruń (Poland).

Life

Nuissl completed a traineeship as an editor in 1965/1966 and then studied sociology , German studies , history , political science and education in Heidelberg and Bremen until 1970 . He received his doctorate in social sciences in Bremen in 1974 and completed his habilitation in education in Hanover in 1987. He headed the empirical science work group in Heidelberg (1974 to 1988) and the adult education center in Hamburg (1988 to 1991) and taught at the universities of Hanover, Marburg and Heidelberg. In 1991 he took over the management of the German Institute for Adult Education in Frankfurt am Main (since 2002 in Bonn). From 1991 to 2002 he was full professor for adult education at the University of Marburg, from 2003 to 2011 full professor for adult education at the University of Duisburg-Essen . Since 2012 he has been teaching as a senior professor in Kaiserslautern . He is also a full professor at the University of Toruń (Poland) and lecturer at the Universities of Florence (Italy) and Timișoara (Romania).

The West University of Timisoara (Romania) awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2000 , the University of Pécs (Hungary) in 2016. He is an honorary professor at the University of New Delhi (India) and an Honorary Fellow of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) in Hamburg . He has been a member of the International Hall of Fame of Adult Education (HoF) since 2006, and a member of the Board of the International Hall of Fame since 2017.

In the course of his scientific and practical work in further education, Nuissl took on honorary and part-time functions. He represented the Federal Republic of Germany many times in committees and at conferences, participated in committees of the European Union, advised state governments and the federal government as well as foreign states on the design of further education. Among other things, he was President of the European Consortium of Research and Development Institutes for Continuing Education (ERDI, 1999 to 2005), Scientific Vice President of the Leibniz Association (2000 to 2006) and Chairman of many committees and juries in Germany and abroad. He is a member of numerous editorial boards of scientific journals in Germany and abroad and (since 1988) co-editor of the "Zeitschrift für Weiterbildungsforschung" (Springer, Heidelberg).

His research areas are educational policy and teaching and learning from and with adults. Nuissl has published more than 800 publications on educational policy and on teaching and learning in continuing education . His most recent book publications are: empirical research in further education (Florence 2017), appropriation of culture (Baltmannsweiler 2017), introduction to adult education (Baltmannsweiler 2017), educational policy ("Keine Lange Weile", Bielefeld 2016), conference didactics (Bielefeld 2016), Education and Space (Baltmannsweiler 2015). Many of his publications have been translated into several languages, including English, Italian, Spanish, Chinese and Polish.
