Eldee Young

Eldee Young or El Dee Young (born January 7, 1936 in Chicago , † February 12, 2007 in Bangkok ) was an American jazz bassist.

Eldee Young attended the Americain Conservatory of Music , played with King Kolax in 1951, and then toured with rhythm and blues singers such as Chuck Willis (1954) Big Joe Turner , T-Bone Walker and Joe Williams . From 1956 to 1966 Young was a member of the Ramsey Lewis Trio and worked among other things. a: on his Verve album Down to Earth from 1958. Then the band broke up and he and the drummer Redd Holt formed bands like Young-Holt Unlimited , whose record "The Soulful Strut" went gold . In 1983 there was a revival of the old Ramsey Lewis trio. With the Asian pianist Jeremy Monteiro, Young and Holt performed at the 1988 Montreux Jazz Festival .

Young also accompanied James Moody , Dinah Washington , Nancy Wilson , Dizzy Gillespie and Oscar Brown Jr. He then went on to work in the field of film music and on radio and television shows. With his own quartet he could also be heard on the cello and as a singer. In 1991 he accompanied the singer Eden Atwood ; In 1999 he was part of George Freeman's band . In the last years of his life he played regularly for half a year each in Singapore and Bangkok (in the “Living Room”, Sheraton Hotel). There he had his last appearance on February 10, 2007. He died of heart failure in the hotel.
