Elbe river hiking trail
The Elbuferwanderweg stretches on the right bank of the Elbe over a distance of around 23 kilometers from the confluence of the Alster into the Elbe to the Schulau harbor in Wedel in Holstein .
In continuation of the Alsterwanderweg , the path consists of the Hamburg sections Övelgönne , Hans-Leip -Ufer, Elbuferweg, Strandweg, Falkensteiner Ufer , Rissener Ufer, Otto-Schokoll-Höhenweg and continues in Wedel via Graf-Luckner -Weg and Elbwanderweg.
First it leads on the flood protection systems to the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken , then it crosses the fish market and leads, among other things, between fishmongers to Övelgönne , where the Himmelsleiter , a steep flight of stairs , connects it with the Elbchaussee . There, near the museum harbor Oevelgönne , is also the Old Swede , a large boulder that was lifted out of the Elbe in 1999 and has been on the beach ever since. On this section, on the opposite bank, there is a view of the two stage musical theaters ( Theater an der Elbe and Theater im Hafen ), the Blohm + Voss shipyards ( Elbe 17 dry dock , floating docks and slipways ), the egg-shaped digestion towers of the sewage treatment plant Köhlbrand , the Köhlbrandbrücke and the Waltershofer container port with its mighty loading bridges .
The path then leads below the Geest slope to Rissen . Shortly before Teufelsbrück you pass the access path to the nearby Jenisch-Haus , across from Finkenwerder the area of the Airbus aircraft yard extends , then below Hirschpark and Baurs Park and crowned by the Süllberg is the multifaceted house complex of Blankenese with its stairs and serpentines. The Elbe widens here to the Mühlenberger Loch , into which the Süderelbe flowed until shortly after the storm surge in 1962 . Below Falkenstein and past the Wittenbergen lighthouse , you reach Wedel, from whose Willkomm-Höft ship-welcoming system the national anthems of the incoming and outgoing ships are played.
