In many places you can find remains of the military positions established during the First World War . Mountaineers and high-altitude hikers still encounter shelters, machine gun nests, remains of old wooden ladders, structures and relics made of barbed wire in many places today, e.g. B. in the area of the Elferscharte . The Italian position there was supplied by the Alpini via a climbing system blasted into the ledges. Today the Alpinisteig ( Strada degli Alpini ), which is very popular among climbing enthusiasts , leads along this route . Sure-footed, vertigo-free and appropriately equipped mountaineers can follow in the footsteps of the Alpini via this iron path without great difference in altitude along the west side of the massif from Giralbajoch to Elferscharte and from there eastwards to the Sentinellascharte.
