Elias Friedrich Wilhelm Blumenthal (born August 18, 1790 in Berlin , † May 25, 1859 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

His parents were Hofrat Karl Friedrich Gottlob Blumenthal and his wife Johanna Sophie Friederike, née Oehlmann.

Military career

Blumenthal joined the Prussian Army's "von Kaiserling" fusilier battalion as a private corporal in 1806 and took part in the battles near Sandau , Waren and the Battle of Lübeck during the Fourth Coalition War. After the peace treaty of Tilsit and the reorganization of the army, he joined the 1st West Prussian Infantry Regiment in mid-August 1809 as a portepeefähnrich and advanced to secondary lieutenant at the end of September 1809 . During the campaign against Russia in 1812 Blumenthal fought near Eckau , Graefenthal and Tomoscna.

During the wars of liberation he took part in the sieges of Erfurt and Laon. He fought in the battles near Bautzen , Dresden , Leipzig , Laon , Paris , Ligny and Belle Alliance . He was also in the battles at Dannigkow , Königswartha, Bunzlau, Beauval, May, Claye , Charleroi, Gilly, Villers-Cotterets and Issy. For his work near Leipzig, Blumenthal received the Iron Cross, 2nd class, and for Ligny, the Cross, 1st class.

After the war he rose to captain and company commander until the end of September 1819 . With his promotion to major on March 30, 1836, Blumenthal was appointed commander of the 1st battalion in the 26th Landwehr Regiment. This was followed by a use in the 13th Infantry Regiment from March 30, 1844 . In this position, promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 31, 1846, he was commissioned on May 20, 1847 to lead the 19th infantry regiment and on January 18, 1848, Blumenthal was appointed regiment commander. It was on May 10, 1848 Colonel transported and received on 9 August 1849 his parting with inn . After his departure, Blumenthal received the character of Major General on August 30, 1849 and was awarded the Commander's Second Class of the Duke Saxe-Ernestine House Order on October 4, 1849 . On May 11, 1858, his pension was put up for disposal . He died in Potsdam on May 25, 1859.

Blumenthal married Auguste Karoline Sophie Lehmann (1791–1877) in Liegnitz on May 31, 1826 , the daughter of the regimental quartermaster and later councilor Johann Friedrich Lehmann.
