Eliasbrunn is a small village on the eastern edge of the Thuringian Forest with 252 inhabitants (as of 2009) and is part of the municipality of Remptendorf in the Saale-Orla district .

geography

The place Eliasbrunn lies on a hilltop at 650 m altitude and is the highest place in the region. The district of the place is shown with an area of 608 ha.

history

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1071, but still as an Adelsgerisbrunnen . A "cruel Mordt-Thath" has come down to us from 1606, in which a farmer named Hans Eysenbeiß murdered his entire family, including maidservant and servant, and was divided into five for it. The church was built in 1703. In 1878 the last tower windmill was built in the wider area, which is today the landmark of the town and was immortalized in the town's coat of arms. In 1994 a modern wind turbine was built in the immediate vicinity of the windmill , which can be seen from afar.

The place belonged to the Reussian "Herrschaft Ebersdorf ", which at times belonged to the lines Reuss-Lobenstein and Reuss-Ebersdorf . In 1848 the place came to the Principality of Reuss Younger Line (from 1852 to the Schleiz District Office ) and in 1919 to the People's State of Reuss . The place has belonged to Thuringia since 1920. During the time of the GDR Eliasbrunn belonged to the Lobenstein district in the Gera district . After 1990, it was a member of the Saale-Sormitz-Höhen administrative community until it was incorporated into the district reform in Thuringia on July 1, 1999. Since then, it has been a part of the Remptendorf community .

coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a gray windmill with a dark blue roof and yellow wings, standing on a green hilltop against a light blue sky.

economy

Various companies are located in the village, which offer a relatively large number of local jobs. The hospitality industry is also well developed in the village. Some clubs, such as the sports club and the fire department, take care of the cultural offer. Due to the exposed location on a hilltop, the place is very suitable as a location for radio masts to supply the surrounding area. In recent years, however, this has also caused displeasure among the population, who fear health problems.
